Tile installation is the process of fixing ceramic tiles to floors or walls.
Precision and attention to technical detail benefit both appearance and performance.
A successful floor depends on more than tile quality: it is a complete system. Installation deserves as much attention as the choice of tiles.
The installer must coordinate each stage within a plan covering the brief, working design, installation technique and appearance. The rules vary with the intended effect. For me, good work starts by analysing the surface to be tiled, an essential step in choosing the design and the most suitable installation method.
Tile colours, patterns, style and texture should also respond to the room’s size, height and natural or artificial light.

Colour and layout create optical effects. Rooms of the same size can feel different: dark colours absorb light and may make spaces appear smaller; lighter colours reflect it and can suggest greater openness. Vertical lines emphasise height, horizontal lines emphasise width, and grid patterns can affect both.
Dark surfaces can appear smaller than equally sized light surfaces. A pale, consistent floor can make a compact room feel larger.
Contrast between flooring and wall finishes can also influence the perception of space, particularly in bathrooms and corridors.

Skill and professionalism help determine the appropriate installation method.

piastrellisti® MADE IN ITALY aims to communicate that today’s tile installer needs technical preparation and a thorough understanding of installation systems. Everyone involved in a project should recognise that expertise.
